The retrial of a veterinarian charged in the slaying of his deformed newborn son was delayed Monday to June 12 after attorneys for both sides requested a postponement.

The first murder trial of Dr. Daniel McKay, 38, of Beecher, was declared a mistrial Feb. 14 when jurors said they were unable to reach a verdict. Lawyers for McKay contend he was temporarily insane when he dashed his son to the delivery room floor at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey minutes after the infant’s birth.

The child was born with a deformed nose, a cleft lip and palate, claw-like hands and serious heart defects.
