The Nation : War on Polio Stepped Up
The Pan American Health Organization declared its intention to eradicate polio from the Americas within five years and announced a $100-million acceleration in its immunization program to achieve that goal. “The time has come for us to say that it is unacceptable for any child in the Americas to suffer from polio,” Dr. Carlyle Guerra de Macedo, director of the organization, said in Washington.
