CHOC Full of Miracles
When we opened last Wednesday’s Orange County section and turned to Page 2, we couldn’t help smiling back at the picture of little Jeffrey Baker’s happy face. He was being released from the hospital to go home with his parents, Linda and Robert Baker of Huntington Beach, for the first time after surviving 10 operations in the first 10 months of his life--the latest miracle from CHOC, Childrens Hospital of Orange County.
In the same hospital, apparently winning their fight for life, are the three surviving Frustaci septuplets. These are the more publicized CHOC patients. They are reminders that in the past two decades there have been countless other youngsters with rare diseases, disorders and defects who owe their lives to CHOC, and the skill and care of the hospital staff that gives so many children in Orange County a chance at life and health.
Not all stories at CHOC have happy endings. But enough of them do to make many people who might not expect miracles, or even believe in them, to somehow rely on them when it comes to sick children--and CHOC.
