3 Injured as Truck Rolls Down Hillside
Three people were injured Sunday when the truck they were riding in rolled down an embankment off Topanga Canyon Boulevard a half-mile south of the Simi Valley Freeway.
An man was reported in fair condition and a woman in critical condition after being flown to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills. Their names were being withheld until relatives could be notified, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The third victim, Barbara Tooley, 55, of Simi Valley, was flown to West Park Hospital in Canoga Park. She was listed in good condition Sunday night.
Officer Herb Williams of the Los Angeles Police Department said the truck was southbound on Topanga Canyon Boulevard when, “God knows why, they cut across the northbound lanes.”
25 Feet Downhill
Williams said the truck hit an asphalt curb that caused it to spin in the opposite direction. The vehicle then rolled sideways 25 feet downhill.
The accident was reported to the Fire Department at 5:44 p.m.
Police said they found a .38-caliber handgun and $2,000 cash in a purse in the truck. The driver told police she owns a bar in Canoga Park.
“She said she was transferring goods from one place to another,” Williams said.
Among the goods that spilled down the side of the hill were food and dozens of bottles of beer, police said.
