Reagan Policy in Nicaragua

I couldn’t agree more with your (June 3) editorial “Let the Contadora Do It.” I even mailed it to the President. How can we make him and his Administration stop this foolish and wrong policy of helping the contras?

Who says we have to approve of every other country’s elected government?

Why are we making it our business?

The argument that “if we don’t stop ‘them’ there we’ll have to fight them here” won’t fly with me. That’s the old argument of fighting a war in someone else’s backyard.

We don’t want a war, period. And we certainly don’t want one that’s none of our business.

The American people should rise up and demand that this Administration give more than lip service to the Contadora effort and maybe the madness in Central America will cease.
