Prisoner Near End of Term Flees in Castaic
Aman serving a one-year sentence for assault slipped away from a minimum security prison in northern Los Angeles county Thursday, authorities said.
Gilbert Esquer, 28, was discovered missing from the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho at Castaic near Interstate 5 about noon, Sgt. Robert Faucette said.
Prison officials notified California police after searching the 2,800-acre facility and determining that Esquer was gone, Faucette said.
Esquer, who is from Compton, was scheduled to be released on Oct. 30.
