1 Killed, 3 Injured in Irvine Collision
One man was killed and three others seriously injured Thursday night when a Orange County paramedic unit was broadsided by a pickup truck at an Irvine intersection.
Sgt. Tom Hume of the Irvine Police Department said the emergency vehicle was en route to a call with its lights flashing and siren sounding when it entered the intersection of Yale Avenue and Trabucco Road, heading south. It was struck by a compact pick up truck heading west on Trabucco.
The driver of the pickup was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the pickup, as well as the driver of the emergency van and a second paramedic were all airlifted to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. None of the identities were released.
Hume said that the intersection would be closed through this morning.
