New Senior Pastors and Rabbi Assume Duties

Several personnel changes have taken place in temples and churches around the county. Following are some of those changes:

The Rev. David O. Beadles will preach at the 9:15 and 10:45 morning services Sunday at United Methodist Church of Laguna Hills. Beadles has assumed the duties of senior pastor since the Rev. George W. Stump retired. Beadles comes to the church from nine years of service at Anaheim United Methodist Church.

Beadles, born in Tacoma Washington, is a graduate of the University of Idaho and also holds a Master of Theology degree from the Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley. He previously was president of the Anaheim Ministerial Assn. and chaplain of the Redlands Police Department.

The congregation of Temple Isaiah of Newport Beach has appointed Steven D. Schatz rabbi. Rabbi Schatz was ordained in 1974 and earned a master’s degree in Hebrew literature from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. He also has a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Religion.

Two open houses are planned so that members of the community can meet Schatz. One will take place Aug. 4 in Newport Beach, and the other will be on Aug. 25 in Santa Ana. For times and locations, telephone the temple office, (714) 548-6900 or (714) 646-7512.

Three new priests have been ordained for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange at Holy Family Cathedral. They are the reverends David Gruver, John W. Procter and John-Paul Hopping.

Both Gruver and Procter earned bachelor’s and graduate degrees in theology from St. John’s Seminary, Camarillo. Hopping received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from Cal State Fullerton, and completed the five-year program for late vocations at St. John’s Seminary.

Edwin C. Linberg has been installed as pastor of Saddleback Christian Church, Mission Viejo. The 3-year-old church was established by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Pacific Southwest Region. Linberg came to the church after a 16-year ministry with the Temple City Christian Church, Temple City. Previously, he was pastor of Gateway Christian Church, West Los Angeles, for six years, and for five years served First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling, Ky.

Linberg is a graduate of Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., and earned bachelor of divinity and master of theology degrees from Lexington Theological Seminary. He also holds a doctorate in ministry from the School of Theology at Claremont, Calif.
