Jeremiah to Coach Fullerton’s Women
Leanne Grotke, Cal State Fullerton associate athletic director, has called a press conference for Monday morning to announce the hiring of Mary Alice Jeremiah as the Titans’ women’s basketball coach.
Jeremiah, who has coached at the Indiana University for the past five years, will replace Chris Gobrecht, who resigned following the 1984-85 season to accept the coaching position at the University of Washington.
Jeremiah also resigned on June 1 and has since moved to Southern California. She will take over a Fullerton team that went 19-11 this past season and finished fifth in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament in March.
The Titans also finished fifth in the Western Collegiate Athletic Assn. but lost three senior starters from that team, including all-conference forward Meg Gallagher, the team’s leading scorer.
Grotke had narrowed her decision this week to two coaches--Jeremiah and Creighton University Coach Bruce Rasmussen.
