Triggering a political crisis in Belgium, the 24 French-speaking Liberal Party members of the ruling coalition resigned over the Christian Democratic interior minister’s refusal to accept responsibility for the May 29 soccer riot that killed 38 people. The walkout means that the Christian Democrat-Liberal coalition of Premier Wilfried Martens no longer can count on a majority in Parliament. Martens, who took office Dec. 12, 1981, said the government will meet on the matter today.
