Newport Beach : Police Seek Witnesses to Pedestrian’s Death
Newport Beach police said Friday that they are seeking any witnesses to an accident on West Balboa Boulevard near 33rd Street in which a 69-year-old pedestrian was killed.
The pedestrian, Martina Trujillo of Newport Beach, was struck by a motor scooter as she was walking across West Balboa Boulevard at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Police said the motorscooter rider told investigators that he was going west on West Balboa and that the woman was walking between intersections with her back to traffic. He told police he was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian, officers said.
Trujillo suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at Fountain Valley Community Hospital at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, police said. The motorscooter rider was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
