Hawthorne Crime Declines by 5.6%
HAWTHORNE — Crime is down in Hawthorne, according to Police Department figures for the first six months of 1985. The figures show that overall crime declined 5.6% from the first six months of 1984.
The number of murders dropped to 5 from 8 during the same period last year, rapes dropped to 12 from 15, robberies to 176 from 177 and assaults to 185 from 233. Property crime also declined, with burglaries dropping to 537 from 577 and larcenies to 929 from 1,015 last year. Vehicle theft was the only category showing an increase. It rose to 352 from 303.
The drop in crime comes after a 1% rise in 1984 from 1983.
