The state will appeal a Humboldt County judge’s order that it prepare an environmental impact report for its campaign to eradicate apple maggot fruit flies in six Northern California counties. Assistant Atty. Gen. Charles Getz said that Humboldt Superior Court Judge William F. Ferroggiaro overstepped his authority in ordering the state Department of Food and Agriculture to draw up the impact report within 10 days. The apple maggot was discovered in northwest California in 1983.
