A 23-member International Trade Commission aimed at proposing policies and strategies that might improve the region’s ability to compete in foreign trade was created Tuesday by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.
Supervisors Susan Golding, who proposed the commission, and Brian Bilbray will sit on the panel along with 17 business and community leaders recommended by Golding. Four more members will be nominated later by Supervisor Leon Williams.
Among other duties, the commission will be asked to identify barriers blocking trade between San Diego companies and the nations of the Pacific Rim and to recommend ways of lowering those barriers.
The commission will report on its studies to the Board of Supervisors at least twice a year.
