A Bum Trip
I am compelled to respond to Jerry Hulse’s article. I concur with everything he wrote. Over the past 10 years we businessmen have been made to feel we were second-class citizens if we didn’t put down that plastic when we checked into a hotel. Last fall my wife and I checked into the Boston Marriott, and when the clerk was informed I would be paying by cash (travelers checks) I was immediately informed that unless I put up an additional $100 to $150 I couldn’t use the phone, and God forbid be permitted to sign for our morning coffee in our room.
We recently returned from six months in Europe. At many hotels I found a reluctance to accept cards. They preferred good old cash or travelers checks, and for a reference, our passports were sufficient.
