New U.S. Envoy Presents Credentials to India Leader

NEW DELHI — New U.S. Ambassador John Gunther Dean presented his credentials to President Zail Singh on Friday, saying he would strive to “build more bridges in all areas of relationship with India.”
Dean, a career diplomat of more than 37 years and previously U.S. ambassador to Thailand, arrived here Aug. 28, replacing Harry G. Barnes, ambassador to India since 1981. Barnes has been posted to Chile.
