Cory Snyder Named MVP of Class AA Minor League
PLAINVILLE, Conn. — Cory Snyder, a former Brigham Young University star and 1984 U.S. Olympic baseball team member, on Friday was named the most valuable player in the Class AA Eastern League.
Snyder had 28 home runs and 95 runs batted in--tops in the league--while playing third base for the Waterbury Indians, a farm club of the Cleveland Indians.
“I felt I had a good season, but winning MVP surprises me a little,” Snyder said from his parents’ Camarillo home. “I could have done better in the field and I started out slow with the bat, but overall I was pleased.”
The former Canyon High star led Waterbury with 34 errors but still was honored as the league’s best defensive third baseman. He also went into an 0-for-22 batting slump to start the season, and for the first month of the season hit below .200.
At the league’s all-star break in July, Snyder was batting only .236, but in the following 47 games hit .367, with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs.
He finished with a .282 batting average.
Snyder has not been told where he will play within the Indians’ organization next season. He started at the Indians’ major league camp this spring but was sent down.
