Suits for Career Women Have Softer Look

Question: Please help me find a suit in Size 20. I have a black wool crepe blazer suit and am looking for something a little less man-tailored. I would like the suit to be wearable both to the office and to luncheons. I am especially bosomy, so please keep that in mind when selecting the style.--M.C.

Answer: The collarless cardigan-jacket suit illustrated here is ideal for diminishing the bust line, and the look is in keeping with this season’s softer, more feminine styling. That may be why J. C. Penney calls it “The career suit of the ‘80s” on Page 5 of the current catalogue for women’s and half sizes. You may also appreciate the fact that it’s a knit of polyester and wool and that the color is mauve rather than one of the more classic neutrals. The three-piece outfit, including a winter white pullover, is priced at $54 in sizes 16 through 22 and is also available for $56 in women’s sizes 38 through 48. Both the jacket and the pullover have dolman sleeves to ensure an easy fit.

Q: I am looking for a great wrap skirt, but have had no luck finding a Size 20. The wrap styling is especially suited for dieting; as no matter how much I lose, the skirt can be adjusted to fit. If you can find one in a khaki color, I would love it.--S.J.H.

It’s a $32 back-wrap style made in narrow-wale corduroy of 85% cotton and 15% polyester. This skirt, which has two side pockets and a front tie, is 28 inches long. Q: Where can I buy or have made quality dressy flats for a size 10 1/2C foot?--J.E.B.

A: You can buy them at the 9 to 12 Shoe Salon, Raintree Plaza, 10750 Jefferson Blvd., Culver City, Calif. 90230.

Typical of the assortment here in your size is Newton Elkin’s satin pump with one-inch heel and gold kidskin lining. It’s $110. Or, you can have shoes custom made at Di Fabrizio Shoes, 8216 West 3rd St. Prices for flats begin at $400. Bring in a photo of the shoes you like and a pair of your old shoes, as this shop does not work from measurements only. Fittings are by appointment.
