The Region : Market Robbery Suspect Eludes Police
A special weapons team accompanied by two police dogs spent three hours searching a supermarket for a robbery suspect who had apparently escaped four hours before when her alleged accomplice was arrested, authorities reported. Two employees of the Hughes El Rancho Market at 1401 Huntington Drive in South Pasadena were rescued from the building’s roof by helicopter and seven others escaped from the store, Deputy Steven Lee said. Deputies believe the woman entered the market with a male accomplice at 7 a.m. The man tried to rob a store manager at gunpoint, Lee said, but other employees notified police, who interrupted the robbery. Michael Oaxaca, 40, was arrested running out the front of the store after shooting out the windows, Lee said. He was carrying $2,000, police said. Police entered the store four hours after the incident began but were unable to locate the woman. No one was injured.
