Donald Duck won 291 votes in Sweden’s general election two weeks ago, up 37% from his showing in the 1982 election but not enough to elect him to Parliament, the vote count showed Monday.

About 26,000 voters, or 0.47% of the electorate, cast their ballots for unofficial candidates--real or unreal--in the Sept. 15 election that returned Prime Minister Olof Palme’s Social Democrats to power.

The popular Walt Disney cartoon character polled 291 votes, compared with 184 votes in 1982, according to final election statistics compiled by the National Tax Board.

But Donald Duck beat such rivals as Garfield the Cat and the Tax Evader’s National Party.
