‘Me Too,’ Barbie Says

PARIS — Klaus Barbie, the Gestapo “Butcher of Lyons” who is accused of sending 11,500 people to their deaths, asked the French government to release him today on the ground that he was following orders just like the secret agents who bombed the Rainbow Warrior.
A lawyer for Barbie sent a telegram with the request to Prime Minister Laurent Fabius, who admitted Sunday that French agents sank the Greenpeace flagship in July but declined to identify them because, he said, they were merely following orders.
