USIU Loses Volleyball Match to Riverside in Five Games
The USIU women’s volleyball team was beaten, 9-15, 16-14, 9-15, 15-12, 15-13, Monday night by host UC Riverside despite 29 kills by outside hitter Nancy Dome and 24 kills by middle blocker Claudia Johnson.
The Gulls fell to 5-8, and UC Riverside, a Division 2 school, improved to 6-3.
USIU had trouble serving in the match and committed 22 service errors, seven of which came in the deciding fifth game. Still, the Gulls rallied from a 5-2 deficit to go ahead, 13-11, on a block by Johnson. UC Riverside, however, came back to score the next four points and take the match.
