Blaze Destroys Home in Norco
NORCO — A $300,000 house in northeastern Norco was destroyed by fire, but firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to two neighboring homes that were threatened by the flames, city fire officials said Friday.
The Thursday night fire destroyed the two-story home owned by David Weems on Filly Lane, as well as contents estimated to be worth $100,000, said Norco Fire Capt. David Goad.
Houses on either side of Weems’ were seriously threatened by the flames because they were roofed with wooden shake shingles, Goad said. One of the houses suffered only minimal damage from a small spot fire on its roof, which was extinguished with a garden hose.
Nobody was in Weems’ home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported in the blaze. A neighbor reported the fire, which was controlled in about an hour by two dozen firefighters from Norco, Corona, the California Department of Forestry, and the Naval Weapons Center in Norco.
Investigators had not determined the fire’s cause on Friday.
