Fullerton Throws Kennedy for a 14-7 Defeat
The Fullerton High School defense registered 12 sacks Friday night as the Indians won their third game of the season by defeating Kennedy, 14-7, in a nonleague game in Handel Stadium.
Junior defensive ends Scotty Price and Brett Reuter each had four sacks of Kennedy quarterback Todd Bristow to help hold the Fighting Irish to a minus 23 yards rushing.
Fullerton, however, trailed the Irish, 7-6, until Mike Chacon scored a two-yard touchdown with 10:12 remaining. On the conversion, Chacon caught a pass from Indian quarterback Victor Williams for two points.
Steve Moore helped the Indians score first when he blocked a punt by Kennedy’s Raif Anderson and returned the ball 12 yards for the touchdown, four minutes into the first quarter.
Kennedy, which had 111 yards total offense, gained 77 of it on its only scoring play of the game, a 77-yard pass from Bristow to tight end Kyle Bernard. That gave the Irish a 7-6 halftime lead.
With Williams held to just 43 yards passing, the Indians offense was powered by the running of Chacon and Darrell Corbin, who combined for 120 yards. Bristow also had trouble through the air, as he completed just two other passes besides his touchdown throw.
Fullerton remains unbeaten with two nonleague games remaining, while Kennedy will enter Empire League play winless in its three nonleague games.
