Two former TCU coaches linked to a slush fund for student athletes allegedly participated in a similar scheme at the University of Tulsa, the Dallas Times Herald reported.

The newspaper said that an Internal Revenue Service investigation implicated F.A. Dry, the former head coach at TCU and now an assistant at Baylor, and Bob Junko, one of Dry’s chief assistants at TCU and now an assistant at the University of Pittsburgh, in the operation of an improper slush fund at Tulsa, where the two coached before moving to TCU.

Jim Wacker, the current TCU coach, recently dismissed seven players who told him that they had taken money from alumni boosters. The NCAA is investigating.

Authorities discovered a slush fund at Tulsa during an eight-year criminal and civil tax-fraud case against a key Tulsa athletic booster, Woodrow (Woody) Cole. The IRS accused Cole of claiming as a business expense secret cash payments to recruit high school players.

One of Cole’s attorneys told the Times Herald that his client’s football payments totaled $50,000 to $75,000 during Dry’s five-season tenure at the school and were funneled through Junko and sometimes Dry to high school prospects.

Dry told the newspaper that the money he received at Tulsa was a gift and was not used for improper recruiting.
