West Virginia and Florida State Set 4-Game Series
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia and Florida State officials announced the two schools will begin a four-game home-and-home football series in 1990.
West Virginia will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for the first game in 1990, and the series will resume in 1993 when the Seminoles travel to Morgantown. Under the agreement, the Mountaineers play at Florida State in 1994 with a final game to be played in Morgantown in 1995.
Officials say a fifth game that would be played in Jacksonville’s Gator Bowl in 1992 is pending but no contracts have been signed.
West Virginia and Florida State met in the 1982 Gator Bowl which was won handily by Florida State, 31-12.
Seminole coach Bobby Bowden, now in his 10th season in Tallahassee, headed the West Virginia program for six years from 1970-1975.
