Valley College Scores Back-to-Back TDs, and Santa Barbara Never Recovers, 21-10
SANTA BARBARA — Valley College scored two quick touchdowns in the first half and held on to defeat Santa Barbara City College, 21-10, Saturday night.
The first came on a 26-yard flea-flicker from running back Calvin Register to Willie Howze with 52 seconds left in the first quarter. On the next Santa Barbara possession, Arthur White picked off a Steve Molina pass and went 44 yards for another score.
Santa Barbara scored all of its points in the second quarter, starting with a one-yard run by Bill Teubner and then a 23-yard field goal by Darren Lees.
With three interceptions in the second half, Santa Barbara threatened but was unable to score when the Monarch defense stiffened. The final Valley score came on a six-yard, fourth-down run by Clifford Cannon, who gained 92 yards on 22 carries.
Valley is 2-1. Santa Barbara fell to 1-2.
