GM Chairman Roger B. Smith said that Saturn, which plans to build small cars at a factory in Tennessee, may augment its line by importing small cars from the company’s overseas operations in Germany, Australia or Brazil. Saturn was billed as the auto maker’s “last-ditch effort” to build a small car in the United States. The Saturn plant’s annual capacity of about 500,000 cars is not expected to be enough to supply dealers across the nation.
