Bain Tries to Practice Though He’s in Pain, but After Coach Kicks Him Out, It’s in Vain

Bill Bain, trying to practice while hurt, was ordered off the Rams’ field Thursday.

“Go see the trainer and get yourself straightened out,” said Hudson Houck, offensive line coach Hudson Houck.

Apparently, Bain was not having a good day.

“I think his wrist is really bothering him,” Houck said. “He can’t lock out (lock his arms on pass protection). He’s just getting worn down. We’re asking him to practice a lot and play the whole game every week.”

Bain, 33, also has a rib cartilage strain, Coach John Robinson said. Earlier, he had been bothered by arthritic ankles and the flu.

“It doesn’t do a guy any good to be out here, trying to get it done hurt,” Houck said.

But Bain is listed as probable to play at Tampa Bay Sunday.

Without him, the Rams have six able offensive linemen, including backups Tony Slaton, a second-year pro, and rookie Duval Love.

“Tony Slaton’s very much ready to play,” Robinson said.
