Mission Viejo : Saddleback Benefit for ‘Night Stalker’ Victim
The student government at Saddleback College is mounting an effort to raise money for Bill Carns, the Mission Viejo man who, police believe, was shot by the serial killer known as the Night Stalker.
College sponsors said that Carns, who was shot in his home three times on the morning of Aug. 25, is undergoing extensive rehabilitation at the Saddleback Community Hospital rehabilitation unit in Laguna Hills. The money will be donated to help with his medical costs, as well as the remodeling of his home to accommodate the rehabilitation.
The fund-raising effort, known as “The Saddleback College Benefit Bowl for Bill Carns,” will send out students to raise pledges in area malls, over the phone and at other community locations. The project will culminate in Saddleback’s football game against Citrus College on Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Donors will be asked to give anywhere from 10 cents on up for every point that is scored in the football contest. For example, if the two teams score 40 points between them, a donor who pledged 10 cents would donate $4 to the fund.
Pledge cards will be sent out to local businesses and will also be available at the field the day of the game. For more information, call (714) 582-4517 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
