The Chicago White Sox said that they will exercise their option to retain the contracts of pitchers Tom Seaver and Britt Burns, who otherwise would become free agents in 1986.
Seaver, however, apparently is bound for New York. Ken Harrelson, White Sox executive vice president, has announced plans to grant Seaver’s wish and trade him to a New York team.
Seaver, 40, was 16-11 with a 3.17 earned-run average last season and also won his 300th game. Burns, 26, had his best year in the majors with an 18-11 record and a 3.96 ERA.
