Valley 42, Marines 6--Valley College ran for 285 yards and tacked on another 32 in passing to hand a loss to a contingent of U.S. Marines from the Third Marine Air Wing in Tustin.
The Marines, known as the Red Hill gang, could muster only five yards rushing as the Monarchs defense overwhelmed the Marine offensive backfield.
The Red Hill gang did get 92 yards passing, mostly on the efforts of Duane Sessions, who completed 10 of 16 for 68 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions.
Valley quarterback Neosia Morris completed five of 11 for 32 yards.
Allan Rouse headed Valley’s offense. He carried the ball 25 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns. The first was a three-yard run with 10 minutes left in the first quarter and the second was a 25-yard burst with 4:32 left in the third quarter.
The Marines only score came with 10:02 left in the first half, on a 36-yard pass from Sessions to Greg Pikney.
With the exhibition play win, Valley is 5-1 overall, 1-0 in conference. The Monarchs resume Southern California Conference play next Saturday against East Los Angeles.
The Red Hill gang, which usually takes on other Marine teams in eight-man play, is 10-2.
