The Region : Inmante Killed in Brawl at County Jail
One man was beaten to death and another was critically injured in a fight that broke out among about a dozen inmates at the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail, sheriff’s deputies reported. Names were withheld pending notification of relatives. Deputy Steven Fitzsimmons said no weapons were involved and it was not immediately known what triggered the apparently gang-related beatings. Fitzsimmons said the men all crowded into one cell before doors were closed by remote control at the end of an open-cell socializing period. He said the trouble was limited to that module and there was no general disturbance. The dead man was 25. The other prisoner, who was 18, was taken to the jail ward of County-USC Medical Center with internal injuries.
