A veteran Internal Revenue Service auditor was sentenced in federal court today to a year and a day in prison for filing bogus tax returns as part of a scheme to defraud the government of $115,000.

U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Greene ordered Gerald A. Hasz to serve the time concurrently on three of 48 counts of false tax return filing and one count of mail fraud. He fined Hasz $4,000, to be paid to the IRS to defray the cost of its investigation.
