Countywide
A private review of the management of San Diego County’s Department of Health Services was approved Tuesday by the county Board of Supervisors.
The board agreed unanimously to contract for a private management audit of the troubled department, which will be split into three smaller units Monday.
Bidding and selection of an auditor is to be completed by February. The report should be finished three months later.
The information will be used by the board and the county’s new chief administrative officer to determine the best long-range organizational structure for what has been the Department of Health Services since 1978.
Under a temporary management plan put in place by Chief Administrative Officer Clifford Graves, who will leave his post by Dec. 31, the department has been split into departments of Public Health, Physical Health and Mental Health.
The board also agreed to accept bids for a similar management study of Edgemoor Geriatric Hospital, with emphasis on the possibility of a nonprofit corporation managing the hospital.
