Anaheim : Senior Citizens Home Slated for 3-Acre Site
A convalescent home and congregate care facility, where the elderly will have their own apartments but share a dining area, are in the works for a three-acre site on South Beach Boulevard.
Plans for both the 138-bed convalescent home at 631 S. Beach Blvd. and the neighboring 100-apartment West Anaheim Royale complex for senior citizens “who need a little bit of extra attention but are still active” were approved by the Planning Commission Monday, Pat Whitaker, city housing finance director, said.
On Tuesday, City Council members approved the issuance of $4 million in tax-exempt bonds to finance construction of the West Anaheim Convalescent Home. In exchange, the developer--Goldrich, Kest and Associates in a partnership with Humana Hospitals--agreed to set aside, for up to 30 years, 40% of the beds for MediCal recipients.
The convalescent home will include physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational counseling, social counseling, optometric services and podiatric services.
At West Anaheim Royale, 20% of the project will be set aside for seniors earning 50% of the median income, or $11,800 for a family of one, Whitaker said.
Both projects have yet to receive final council approval, which is expected by next month.
