Indonesia Moves to to Preserve Forests

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Each of Indonesia’s 27 provinces will be required to convert 10% of its land to forest preserves, according to a government official quoted Wednesday by the newspaper Suara Karya.
Indonesia’s state minister for the environment, Emil Salim, was quoted by the paper as saying that if the plan is fully implemented, the country will have a total of 45 million acres of forest preserve.
The newspaper said Salim did not give an implementation date.
