LOS ANGELES COUNTY - News from Nov. 19, 1985
Sidney H. Sapsowitz is to join the new management team at United Artists Corp. as executive vice president and chief business operations and administrative officer on completion of Turner Broadcasting System’s purchase of Los Angeles-based MGM/UA Entertainment Co., of which Sapsowitz is executive vice president. Financier Kirk Kerkorian, MGM/UA controlling shareholder, is buying UA from Turner and setting it up as a separate film studio.
Jerry Weintraub, UA’s recently appointed chairman and chief executive, said Sapsowitz will join Kenneth Kleinberg “on an equal status as an integral member of new UA’s senior, day-to-day decision-making body.”
Last week, Weintraub announced that Kleinberg, an entertainment lawyer, would be a director and a member of the “senior management team” but didn’t specify another title.
UA’s announcement Monday said Sapsowitz will remain in his current MGM/UA position until the effective time of the Turner merger.
Sapsowitz is the MGM/UA’s third-ranking executive and its principal officer in areas of finance, business operations and administration. He is the first MGM/UA senior officer to be appointed to the new UA management.
