‘MIAMI VICE’ IN FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS
With “Miami Vice” really smoking (it’s rubberhosed “Falcon Crest” into submission), is “Dallas” next?
NBC says it has no plans to move its color-coordinated cop show, which has stormed into the Nielsen Top 10 by outdrawing the winey Channings on Fridays at 10.
But many analysts believe it’s only a matter of time before Crocket and Tubbs are shifted to 9 p.m. to slug it out with the heavyweight Ewings of “Dallas.” Some speculate that NBC will make the change next spring and let “Miami Vice” spread its roots over the summer, when “Dallas” reruns generally fare poorly. Others think it could happen sooner.
The scheme: “Vice” could seriously undercut “Dallas” and help wrestthe ratings crown away from CBS. And it could serve as a strong lead-in to build some new NBC series at 10 o’clock.
