Nestande Rings Up $225,000 for Statewide Race
Orange County Supervisor Bruce Nestande, a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, raised more than $225,000 at a fund-raiser that drew 740 people to the Irvine Hilton hotel on Wednesday night.
It was Nestande’s largest fund-raiser to date in his statewide campaign, which began June 4. Nestande said he expects to raise $400,000 by Jan. 1 and $1.5 million by June.
“I feel prepared to run,” Nestande said. He said that he supports Gov. George Deukmejian strongly, and that with the amount of money he has raised so far it will be “difficult for a competing candidate to move in. I think we have locked in this county” in terms of support for his bid for lieutenant governor.
Along with such GOP officials as Assemblyman Gil Ferguson (R-Newport Beach), Assemblyman Robert C. Frazee (R-Carlsbad), Sen. Edward R. Royce (R-Anaheim) and Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach), those attending the $250-a-plate dinner included Orange County developer and Democratic financier David Stein.
A Stein aide said that Stein has long been a Nestande admirer.
