Defending ‘Revolt of Masses’

Aaron Wildavsky’s virulent review of Ortega y Gasset’s “Revolt of the Masses” (Book Review, Dec. 15) and his disparagement of its translator, Anthony Kerrigan, apparently was the result of ideological opposition to this famous work. Anthony Kerrigan is a leading American translator of Spanish literature and a recipient of the American Book Award for his work in his field. His introductory essays are classics in themselves.

Because of his bias, it would have been discreet of Mr. Wildavksy to have foregone reviewing this book.
