Oops, It’s Archie Moore’s House

A burglary suspect was apprehended early Thursday morning inside the San Diego home of former light-heavyweight champion and boxing great Archie Moore.

Moore, 70, said his son, Billy Ray, 34, was awakened by somebody fumbling while opening a door at Moore’s home in the 3500 block of E Street. Moore’s son collared the suspect, who attempted to escape after he entered the house, and held him for police after awakening his father.

Moore said he had no idea why the suspect picked his home. “He couldn’t have been lost, but he could have lost his life,” the still-powerful ex-champ quipped.

Police identified the suspect as William Beamon, 27, a transient. He entered the house with a key he found in a pair of jogging pants that had been left outside. Beamon was held in the downtown County Jail on suspicion of burglary, in lieu of $5,000 bail.
