A Kenya newspaper said it had been hoaxed by a driver who claimed to have won a 380-mile reverse-driving rally in New Zealand.
Two weeks ago, Kenyan dailies, state-run television and radio all highlighted reports of Eric Awori, a Nairobi-based racer, winning an international car rally for driving in reverse, in Auckland, New Zealand.
But the Daily Nation, Kenya’s largest newspaper, has now reported that Awori never even went to New Zealand. “(He) has pulled off a super con trick on Kenyans,” the paper reported.
