Reply to Letter on Topanga Plan

I would like to reply to the letter by Marty Corbett of Topanga regarding the Montevideo Country Club.

The area plan encompassing Summit Valley is a temporary document. The land is zoned for 500 units. We would not like to see high-density, low-income housing on that land. If you do not think that can happen, I suggest you talk to professional people who really know the laws. An out-of-date 1960s-style protest mob would not stop it. General and area plans are subject to amendments. There is a normal on-going procedure for this. It is not extraordinary!

Architect Chris Wojciechowski has designed a marvelous complex, and even some in opposition acknowledge it as beautiful. To compare this to a pizza restaurant is ludicrous and shows just how unfamiliar you are with fine architectural design.

At present this land is eroded and not friendly to man or beast. The motorcyclists have made it their playground. There is nothing desirable about that. Standing anyone you do not agree with up against a wall and shooting them is not an idea to be propagated, no matter who said it first--Harry Truman, Frank Lloyd Wright, Al Martinez or Cain and Abel. This site is privately owned, and the ownership has a right to develop it. The great majority of people in and near the area want the country club with all the benefits and beautification it offers. Recreation is greatly needed and desired in this area, and we are grateful to the architect for his dedication and consideration of all the people concerned.
