Community College Baseball : Cypress Has Six-Run Inning, Breezes to 11-5 Win Over Cuesta
Cypress College scored six runs in the eighth inning en route to a 11-5 nonconference win over Cuesta Monday at Cypress.
Jim Jackle and Mark Mohler each had two-run singles in the inning to break open a close game.
Chris Kocman went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and a home run. Mark Baca was 2 for 3 with a home run.
Winning pitcher Eric Silvey (2-0), a freshman from Fullerton High School, pitched 2 innings and struck out two.

Rancho Santiago 17, Grossmont 3--First baseman Ruben Gonzalez went 5 for 6 with a home run, 2 doubles and 8 RBIs. In all, the Dons (4-0) had 18 hits. Winning pitcher David Salcido (1-0) pitched five innings, allowed six hits, two runs and struck out two. Rancho Santiago’s Frank Appice went 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Jeff Welch had a solo homer.
San Diego Mesa 8, Fullerton 3--Losing pitcher Lynn Smith gave up five runs in 2 innings for Fullerton. Smith (0-1) allowed two hits, five walks and a two-run home run to Ed Thomas in the first inning. Fullerton (3-4) outhit Mesa 8-5. Anthony Moreno went 2 for 4 with a home run.
Southern California College 18, Christ College Irvine 4--The Vanguards had an easy time at home, getting 22 hits. SCC (4-3) scored seven runs in the sixth inning, three on a home run by Ron Nelson. Nelson was 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Jeff Motske was 4 for 6 with 6 RBIs. Winning pitcher Kevin Chavez (1-0) pitched five innings and allowed two hits. He struck out five. Christ College is 4-3.
