UCI FINE ARTS DEAN NAMED ARTS ALLIANCE PRESIDENT
Robert Garfias, dean of fine arts at UC Irvine, has been named president of the Orange County Arts Alliance.
He succeeds Patti-Gene Sampson, who has held the post two years.
Other new officers named at the alliance’s annual organizational meeting are Rick McCarthy, chief financial officer, and Ann Avery Andres, secretary. Awards for outstanding contributions in the arts were presented to Robert Cohen, UCI drama program chairman; John Paul Jones, UCI studio-art professor; Julian Palley, UCI Spanish and Portuguese chairman; Charles Rutherford, Orange Coast College instrumental-music professor; Jack Vaughn, Irvine Unified School District support services coordinator, and the late architect-educator, Murton Willson.
Other new board officers, incLuding the various vice presidents, will be announced at the alliance’s March 4 meeting, Michele Weigand, administrative director, said.
