‘Gilding the Lily in Grenada’
The editorial (Feb. 21), “Gilding the Lily in Grenada,” shows how little your editorial staff values political freedom.
Your editorial downplays the significance of the ouster of the Marxists following the U.S. intervention because we weren’t able, at the same time, to eliminate all of the economic problems of the islands.
Once again, democracies are asked to justify their actions by passing impossible tests.
There is comfort in the knowledge that, as even The Times had to begrudgingly admit, “the island’s people are clearly grateful.”
People who have had their liberty denied and then restored are not so stupid as to link its value to commodity prices.
