6 Killed When Fire Erupts at Child’s Birthday Party
Associated Press
NEW DELHI — Fire raced through a crowded tent during a child’s birthday party, killing six people and injuring 90, fire officials said Thursday.
About 600 people were crowded into the 100-square-foot cotton tent Wednesday night to celebrate the first birthday of Ankur Bhagi. Guests said the fire broke out shortly after the birthday cake had been cut, engulfing the tent within minutes and sending the 20-foot-high canopy crashing down. The cause of the blaze was not immediately determined.
