Patrick Ewing Could Miss Rest of Season
NEW YORK — Center Patrick Ewing, the No. 1 pick in last year’s NBA draft, has floating tissue in his right knee and could miss the rest of the season, the New York Knicks announced Monday.
Ewing, 7-foot, 240-pounds, has incurred no ligament or cartilage damage but the problem may require surgery, according to Knicks physician Dr. Norman Scott. Ewing will travel to Washington to be examined by Steve Haas and Carl McCarty, doctors who are familiar with the center from his days at Georgetown University.
“This is a new problem, not related to the jumper’s knee he has been suffering,” Knick general manager Scotty Sterling said. “There is the possibility of arthroscopic surgery before the end of this week which would put Ewing out for the season. I’m in favor of it, if it is needed to get the tissue out of there.”
Ewing has missed 14 games this season. He is averaging 20 points and 9 rebounds per game.
He was examined last Thursday by Dr. Haas in Washington.
