WCAC Honors USIU Coach and Players
SAN DIEGO — Toya DeCree of United States International University was named Player of the Year, and Gull Coach Cassie Macias Coach of the Year by womens’ basketball coaches in the West Coast Athletic Conference. USIU freshman guard Sony Carter was named Newcomer of the Year.
DeCree, a 6-foot 1-inch senior forward, averaged 21.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Carter, 5-10, was USIU’S No. 2 scorer, averaging 16.2 points overall and 19.3 points in WCAC games.
Macias, who has coached the Gulls three years, guided USIU to its best record, 23-7 overall and 11-1 in conference play, and a first-place finish in the WCAC.
